As the scale of the crisis here in Calais and also across Europe continues to grow, so does our ambition and determination to do more to help. We are now working in partnership with local charity L’auberge des Migrants, and international NGO Médicine Sans Frontièrs to create 600 shelters in Calais housing half the camp – around 3000 people.
Additionally we have recently been asked if we can urgently assist with the creation of a shelter programme in Lesvos. The situation there is dire, with nearly 100,000 refugees on an island a resident population of only 86,000. The majority of these recently arrived refugees have little or no shelter and the island infrastructure is struggling to cope. One of us will be travelling to Lesvos shortly to assess what is needed.
